Kyowa Hakko USA tapped Dr. Toshikazu Kamiya, formerly director of KyowaHakko Bio, Healthcare Products Development Center, as its new president andchief executive officer.

Since 1997, Dr. Kamiya has been the head of the Nutraceuticals ResearchGroup devoting himself to health care research to clarify how amino acidsand other nutritional molecules relate to aging, diseases, skin disorders,obesity and other health issues. He received his Ph.D. in agriculturalchemistry from the University of Tokyo and has worked on pharmaceutical and nutraceutical research for over 20 years at Kyowa Hakko Bio Co., Ltd.

The company is also mourning the loss of Yoichiro Sugimura, senior directorof Scientific Affairs and Business Development for Kyowa Hakko USA.Sugimura joined Kyowa Hakko (Japan) in April 1991 and was in charge ofinternational marketing until April 2006 when he was assigned to leadBusiness Development for Kyowa Hakko USA. He had extensive internationalbusiness experience, having lived in Canada and Republic of South Africa aswell as the U.S.
