With help from Marc Stoiber, the retailer combines traditional and alternative approaches to health

More consumers are taking an active role in their health and Pure Pharmacy is providing just the right outlet for them. The Canadian retailer recently opened its 15th location in and around Vancouver. But it’s not the number of stores that is impressive—it’s the number of options available to Pure’s customers. Owner Bob Mehr melded the best ideas from conventional pharmacy with proven homeopathy, naturopathy and remedies from all over the world, explained Marc Stoiber, the creative director and strategist who worked with Mehr and his partners on Pure. “Improving the lifestyle equation, I think is the biggest departure from conventional pharmacy,” Stoiber told The Times Colonist, a local newspaper. As a result, when customers get their prescriptions filled at Pure, they can also get a lesson in how environmental and lifestyle factors impacted their heath. And, to stay healthy, Pure features nutritionists, naturopathic health advisers and offers in-store seminars on health care issues. With so many options to choose from, Mehr expects Pure to become the center of health in the area, a place where customers can come in and find the solution to their problems—whether that solution resides in traditional or alternative medicine. Mehr operates 15 Pure locations in the Vancouver area and has plans to add more through acquisitions. It’s all part of the growing trend of consumers taking their health into their own hands. “There’s a silver tsunami of Baby Boomers who won’t accept what doctors tell them, and (they) won’t be satisifed with a pharmacist saying ‘take two and call me in the morning,'” Stoiber told The Times Colonist. “They are looking for ways to stay in prime condition.” And that means taking whatever unconventional steps necessary to improve and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
