The American Cleaning Institute (ACI, formerly The Soap and Detergent Association) promoted Kathleen Stanton to director, technical & regulatory affairs. She previously served as associate director of Scientific Affairs at ACI.

“Kathy Stanton is a valuable member of ACI’s scientific team, especially when it comes to her analysis of legislation, government regulations, and criteria on green chemistry and cleaning,” said Richard Sedlak, ACI’s senior vice president of technical & international affairs.

“It is more important than ever to bring a science-based focus to public policy and rule making, particularly in the area of so-called ‘green’ products, which nowadays is fraught with arbitrary and non-scientific criteria.Kathy’s work helps ensure that the cleaning products industry can continue to innovate and bring beneficial products to market.”

Stanton joined ACI (then SDA) in 2002.Her duties include research and analysis to support ACI’s technical, scientific, and oleochemical programs.Besides her work on green chemistry, she manages global consortia on high production volume chemicals, manages research on the environmental effects of major cleaning product ingredients, and works closely with the oleochemical industry to promote innovation in new uses of oleochemicals.

Prior to joining ACI, she worked four and a half years at the United States Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences for the Department of Surgery, where she was a research associate.
