J&J Opens the Active Naturals Institute

A new online resource on the science of natural ingredients in skin care.

J&J is counting on two major trends—actives and naturals—to propel skin care sales in the future; which is why the company launched the Active Naturals Institute—an online resource for information and education on the science of natural ingredients in skin care.

“We bring together leading experts in dermatology, phytoscientists and researchers at Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc. to share knowledge and experiences, explore new technologies and champion innovations in the use of natural ingredients in skincare,” said Sylvie Legenne, Director of Professional Programs for Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products Company.

Educational content for the website is reviewed by the Scientific Committee, an expert panel of scientists and dermatologists.

Highlights of the website include:

Research Grant
A $50,000 annual research award will be given to promote dermatology research within the field of natural ingredients in dermatology. Emphasis will be placed on supporting research that benefits the dermatology community at large and has significant potential to advance patient care. Specific areas of interest include new natural ingredients, the role of natural ingredients in anti-aging formulations, barrier protection and repair. Applications are available online now through Nov. 30, 2009 at www.activenaturalsinstitute.com.

Library
Provides an indexed scientific review of new and existing natural ingredients and their applications in Dermatology – including history and origin, available preclinical and clinical data and sourced references.

Laboratory
Explores the processes of screening, validation and development of natural ingredients with scientifically proven benefits in skincare – including an online video moderated by Leslie Baumann, MD, director of cosmetic dermatology at the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami.

Auditorium
Provides access to slide kit and video presentations on natural ingredients in Dermatology. In the future, visitors will be able to view a pre-recordedwebinar on natural antioxidants hosted by Cherie Ditre, MD, assistant professor, department of dermatology, University of Pennsylvania.
