The American Cleaning Institute is committed to make more information available to consumers regarding the content of its members’ products and the safety of their ingredients, according to ACI President Ernie Rosenberg. To that end, The Institute has compiled the ACI Ingredient Inventory, which contains more than 900 unique ingredients identified in US consumer cleaning products. The program is spearheaded by Paul DeLeo, senior director of environmental safety, ACI.

“Over 90% of our industry is engaged in our voluntary ingredient communication program,” noted Rosenberg. “The ACI Ingredient Inventory is something that we are very proud of. We are meeting the needs of the public—maybe not the activists—but the public is getting their needs met.”

This year, ACI is identifying a complete, publicly available hazard data set for each of the ingredients on the Ingredient Inventory and will provide a direct electronic link to that information. The next step will be to create exposure assessment for each chemical used in each product and a screening-level risk assessment comparing the threshold for the identified critical hazard endpoint to the exposure.
