AkzoNobel Appoints Asad as Project Leader

AkzoNobel: appointed Ra’eda Asad as hair care project leader. Her responsibilities include leading the formulation and evaluation of personal care surfactant systems and providing solutions and troubleshooting assistance to support current product lines and customer formulas.

Asad joins AkzoNobel following successful tenures at Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products Company in Skillman, NJ and Huntsman LCC in Austin, TX.


BioScreen Testing Services: tapped Susan Small as the director of quality assurance. She is a quality management professional with 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. She also has a great deal of expertise in GMP compliance, according to BioScreen.


Dow Corning: named Stewart Long market strategy leader for its skin care business. He will develop new strategies to create and commercialize innovative silicone applications and formulations.
Long joins Dow Corning with more than two decades of experience in sales, marketing and business development leadership at companies including Unilever, where he was responsible for skin care innovation. Most recently, he was European skin care scientific adviser at Alliance Boots.


DPT Laboratories: promoted Tom Mitchell to senior manager, marketing. In his new role, he will oversee all marketing programs for the company.

Mitchell joined DPT in January 2005 as marketing manager. Prior to that, he worked at Virbac Animal Health.


The National Association of Container Distributors: (NACD) named Mark Giesen, president and chief executive officer of Continental Packaging Solutions, as its president. His term—approved by the voting committee at the NACD annual convention—runs to 2012.


Zotos: named Nathan Vo to the position of associate interactive communications/marketing manager. He has a strong background in project management, systems development and program analysis.

Vo worked for Mattel for seven years, Insync Media and User Technology Associates.


The Natural Products Association (NPA): named Elizabeth W. Hurst to the newly created position of state government relations manager, under the association’s global government and scientific affairs department. She monitors state and local policy proposals that can affect the natural products industry, and workswith NPA regional offices on an effective response.

Prior to joining NPA, Hurst was a senior government relations specialist with the National Court Reporters Association, where she identified and tracked legislation that impacted the association’s members, managed the association’s PAC and fundraisers, and produced educational publications and other materials. She also worked for Denny Miller Associates, a lobbying firm.


Berjé Inc.: tapped Fernand-Patrice Sirvent as senior vice president of global product management.

Sirvent developed a unique global perspective during his previous employment at Adrian, Degussa and Polarome, according to the company.

de Villoutreys of Firmenich

Firmenich: appointed Armand de Villoutreys as president, perfumery division and a member of its executive committee. He succeeds Michel Bongi, who retired after 39 years with the company.

de Villoutreys joined Firmenich in 1999 to manage international fine fragrance operations (excluding France and the U.S.). He brings 15 years of previous business development experience in consumer goods.


Aveda: appointed Janell Geason to the position of global educator, Aveda Makeup. She will join the Global Technical Education Team, reporting to Jeff Saylor, executive director technical education for Aveda.

Geason, a longtime mentor and educator in the Aveda network, will oversee technical education for Aveda Makeup, including curriculum development and implementation; the Aveda Makeup Purefessional team of in-field educators; and Aveda Freelance Advisor group. She will also collaborate with research and development, marketing and design teams to bring new products and imagery to market.

Geason began her career at the Horst Cosmetology School in Minneapolis, MN, nearly 25 years ago and has worked within the Aveda network ever since.
