BASF is building a new production plant for L-menthol at the company’s Ludwigshafen, Germany site. The new plant is expected to come on stream in 2012. L-menthol is an ingredient in numerous dental care, flavoring and pharmaceutical industry products. For example, it gives toothpastes and mouthwashes a refreshing taste, and is also used in the pharmaceutical industry in balms and creams to relieve congestion and ease breathing.
