The Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA) announced that Steven D. Bennett, Ph.D. has joined the Association to serve in the newly created role as Director of Scientific Affairs. The expansion of CSPA’s scientific department comes at a time when the multifaceted association’s many emerging issues have increased industry’s need for sound science.

Bennett will primarily be responsible for managing the Scientific Affairs Committee and all of its related task forces and issues. His charge is to bolster the Association’s scientific affairs leadership and increase activities related to the environmental health and safety issues facing the industry.

“Steven is a welcome addition to CSPA’s scientific team, as his expertise and various experiences are sure to bear immediate contributions,” said Doug Fratz, CSPA vice president of Scientific and Technical Affairs. “Our members depend on our ability to provide sound counsel as it relates to science and research and I am confident that Steven will be an asset in that regard.”

Prior to joining CSPA, Bennett worked as a scientist and chemist for E.A. Engineering (Sparks, MD). He also lectures on the chemistry of natural processes for the Environmental Science and Policy Masters Program at John Hopkins University.

Bennett holds a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from the University of Delaware and a bachelors of science in chemistry from Lock Haven University (Pennsylvania). He currently resides in Ellicott City, Maryland.
