Estee Lauder Names Moss Sr VP, General Counsel and Secretary

The Estee Lauder Companies Inc. named Sara E. Moss senior vice president, effective Sept. 8. Ms. Moss will be an executive officer of the company and will assume the posts of general counsel and secretary. She succeeds Paul Konney, who is leaving the company to return to private practice.

Most recently, Ms. Moss held the position of senior vice president and general counsel at Pitney Bowes Inc. She was responsible for all domestic and international legal matters, including acquisitions, relations with global regulatory bodies, legislative issues, intellectual property, patent protection, corporate governance, licensing and litigation.

Prior to joining Pitney Bowes, Ms. Moss was senior litigation partner for Howard, Smith & Levin (now Covington & Burling), a New York City-based law firm. She has served as assistant U.S. attorney, in the criminal division, in the Southern District of New York. Prior to that, she practiced at Davis Polk & Wardwell and was law clerk for the District Judge in the Southern District of New York Constance Baker Motley.

Ms. Moss has received the Anti-Defamation League Human Relations award, the NOW Legal Defense and Education fund “Aiming High” award, the Minority Corporate Counsel Diversity award and the Pro Bono Partnership Outstanding Contribution award. She has served as a member of the board of directors of the American Arbitration Association, the Second Circuit Judicial Conference Committee and the executive committee of the Corporate General Counsel Section of the American Bar Association. She is a vice president of the Federal Bar Council and has taught trial advocacy at the Harvard Law School and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.
