NYFW: Seventies Style at Tory Burch

Makeup and hair showcase luminous, earthy beauty.

At the Tory Burch FW ’16 show, the collection reflects the designer’s inspiration—the nonchalance of street style in the Seventies combined with Tory’s childhood love of horseback riding. To create a relaxed, modern look, makeup artist Diane Kendal used the Tory Burch Beauty collection, including a matte bronze eye shadow, luminous bronzer and blush, and pinky-nude lip color.

“The look is inspired by Seventies-era equestrian style, with a touch of sensuality reflected in the models luminous skin and the smudged eye look,” said Kendal.

Kendal created a “worn-in” smudged eye using Paillette from the Tory Burch Pas du Tout Eye Shadow Palette in the crease of the upper lid and along the lower lash line. She applied foundation across the upper lid for a matte bronze look, finished with a light coat of M.A.C. Haut & Naughty Lash Mascara.

To complete the look, Kendal gave models a fresh-faced glow. She began by moisturizing, prepping and illuminating the skin to even the tone before sweeping the apples of the cheeks with Tory Burch Bronzer & Blush in Divine, a combination of three skin-brightening shades for a radiant glow.

For a finishing touch, Kendal chose Tory’s favorite pinky-nude lip color, Pas du Tout, from the designer’s collection of 12 shades. She blended the lipstick with a dab of concealer, gently patted it in with the fingertips and finished with a final dab of lipstick to intensify the color.

As a nod to the 70s, Redken Global Creative Director Guido achieved a messy yet sophisticated hair knot at Tory Burch’s Fall/Winter 2016 show.

“Tory Burch’s show is a nod to the 70’s in a very modern way. She has an easy idea about beauty – almost like a woman in a movie. Nowadays, to do sophisticated hair, it has to be easy, whether a knot or ponytail. This idea of ease with your hair is very much still on trend,” said Guido. “My key product for this show is Redken’s wind blown 05 which helps to create this understated yet chic look. I used my fingers instead of a comb to part the hair so it appears more natural looking, and then secured the hair into a ponytail which I texturized with wind blown 05 to add more control to clean hair. With messy hair, it’s all about the intention; this look can easily be gym hair but when paired with the right dress, it becomes something special. The ease of your hair will make you look super sophisticated and current, it’s important not to overthink it.”
