As the holiday season approached, employees at ORLY International decided that a new twist on their standard office gift exchange could bring joy to both recipients and gift givers. ORLY employees Angela January and Katie Shaw thought that giving gifts to benefit a charity would encourage involvement and offer the benefit of helping those less fortunate during the holiday season.

While Toys for Tots and other well-known charities focus on children, the team recognized that adults in need are often underserved during the holiday season. Angela drives by California Healthcare and RehabilitationCenter on the way to work each day, and she thought the center would be a logical beneficiary for the holiday gift initiative.

Orlando contacted the center, and the “Adopt a Friend” program was born. The center houses many residents who either do not have family or whose families do not have the means to buy them presents. The center employees gathered names of residents and the gifts they hoped to receive, ranging from blankets to sweaters to socks. Angela and Katie distributed the list to ORLY employees, and over 50 jumped at the chance to participate.

On Dec. 23, 2010, about 30 employees visited the center to deliver the gifts. The center residents who participated were delighted to receive their gifts and spend time with the ORLY employees who attended. ORLY International further supported “Adopt a Friend” by donating the wrapping paper and allowing employees to participate in many aspects of the event while on the clock.

The “Adopt a Friend” program was a resounding success and it left all participants glowing with holiday spirit. The company plans to reinstate and expand the program in 2011 and for years to come.

Jeff Pink founded ORLY in 1975 with a simple idea: to innovate natural nail care.By creating leading-edge products and tools designed not only to beautify, but to respond to the needs of salon professionals, ORLY’s dynamic color palette includes over 150 Lacquer shades that are completely free of DBP, formaldehyde and toluene. As much a trendsetter as a nail care innovator, ORLY also introduced the first-ever iconic nail look: the Original French Manicure.
