RIFM’s Reproduction Adjunct Group Welcomes Shiota

Executive VP at Kyoto University joins expert panel.

Kohei Shiota, M.D., Ph.D has accepted an invitation to join the Reproduction Adjunct Group and will contribute his expertise to the Expert Panel’s review of RIFM’s research on fragrance materials. Dr. Shiota is executive vice president at Kyoto University in Japan.

He was formerly professor and chair of the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology and drector of the Congenital Anomaly Research Center at Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine. He also served as dean of the Graduate School of Medicine in 2007-2008. He was a visiting scientist and professor at the University of Washington (US), the Free University of Berlin (West Germany) and the University of Leicester (England).

His research interests include reproductive and developmental toxicology, pathogenesis and mechanisms of normal and abnormal human embryonic development, epidemiology of human birth defects and 3D and 4D visualization of human prenatal development. Shiota consults on reproductive toxicology and teratology for governmental agencies including the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare and the Ministry of Environment of Japan. He has 300 scientific papers published in peer reviewed journals and 30 book chapters.


Shiota joins current members of the Reproduction Adjunct Group: Dr. Jochen Buschmann, head of Reproductive Toxicology, Fraunhofer Institute of Toxicology and Experimental Medicine, Hannover, Germany and Dr. Anthony Scialli, consultant, Tetra Tech Sciences, Arlington, VA.
