SCC Honors David Steinberg, Bart Maxon and Mindy Goldstein

The Society recognizes the achievements of its members during the awards luncheon at the SCC Annual Meeting & Technology Showcase.

The Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) honored several members during the Society’s Annual Scientific Meeting & Showcase. Honorees included:

Maison G. deNavarre Medal Award. The Society's highest honor is awarded to David C. Steinberg in recognition of his industry expertise and contributions to advancing cosmetic science. This award recognizes Steinberg’s activity in supporting the best interests of the cosmetic industry through his various technical contributions, which include: founding of the MS in Cosmetic Science program at Farleigh Dickinson University (1982); author of five industry textbooks and chapter authorship in 11 other books; numerous regulatory accomplishments in North America and the EU; course instructor and educator; and his service as advisory board member for many industry publications.

SCC Merit Award: Bart Maxon, Dow. During Maxon’s 23+ years of membership, he had the inspiration to co-found and serve as the first chairperson of SCC’s Michigan Chapter. He has also volunteered as a CEP instructor, speaker, National Board Area director, and Fellow Certification Committee member. 

Florence Wall Women in Cosmetic Chemistry Award: Dr. Mindy Goldstein. She served two terms as SCC national president; president of the Long Island Chapter; a member of the Committee on Scientific Affairs and various other SCC Committees; served as associate editor of the Journal of Cosmetic Science; recipient of the SCC Merit Award (2010); and was also recognized as a technical fellow of the SCC in 2002.

Other award winners include:
Society of Cosmetic Chemists Award: Anna Howe, Evonik, for the SCC75 presentation, “Bottle Your Sustainability Goals—Minimize Your Environmental and VOC Footprint in Sun Care Products.”

Joseph P. Ciaudelli Award: Evelyne Maes PhD, Jolon M. Dyer PhD, Santanu Deb-Choudhury PhD and Stefan Clerens PhD for the Journal of Cosmetic Science, Volume 72 Special Edition, “Mapping Protein Cross-Links in Human Hair via Mass Spectrometry.”

Allan and Jeanette Black Award: Amy Ethier PhD, for the SCC75 presentation, “Evaluating the Environmental Impact of Natural and Synthetic Mica Through Life Cycle Assessment.”

Young Scientist Award: Maliha Naqvi Syed PhD, Avlon Industries, for the SCC75 presentation “Curly Hair: Structure, Properties & Care.”

Des Goddard Award: Brittany Pease, Inolex, for the SCC75 presentation, “Bridging Personal Care and Environmental Care: A Holistic Approach to Formulation Development in the Post-Covid-19 Era.”

Hans Schaeffer Award: Daphne Benderly PhD, Presperse, for the SCC75 presentation, “Screening of Personal Care Ingredients for Potential in Immediate Wrinkle Blurring.”

• Shaw Mudge Award: Kate Beers PhD, National Institute of Standards Technology, for the SCC75 presentation, “Soft Matter Circular Economy.”
