Sephora has added to two new features to the Sephora + Pantone Color IQ foundation matching service—lip and concealer color matching. The complimentary in-store services take the guesswork out of finding the lip and concealer shades by filtering through Pantone’s SkinTone library.

The device uses tri-directional color image capture technology to record 27 color-accurate images in 1.8 seconds using 8 different visible illuminations and 1 ultraviolet illumination for precision matching. This data is synthesized into a grid of 100×100 pixels, which then becomes a color composite and is assigned an official Pantone SkinTonenumber.

Clients can select from more than 3,500 lip shades in seven color families like nude, pink, berry, coral or red and results can even be sorted further by texture, finish, and format, then emailed directly for future reference.

For the conclear, the device uses the same SkinTone number to find optimal matches from more than 400 different concealers across all brands that Sephora carries. Each shade was placed on the SkinTone Library grid using spectrophotometer color match, the same methodology used for Color IQ foundation matching, and then further categorized, said the company.
