Strahl & Pitsch has introduced sunflower wax, a vegan alternative for use in cosmetics and personal care formulations. Sunflower wax is produced through the winterization of sunflower oil. The material acts as a consistency modifier in sticks and emulsions. It will help thicken a formula by providing a rigid structural network of wax crystals, which improves oil binding, emolliency, film formation and lubricity. Its crystalline composition provides excellent oil gelling properties, allowing it to be used at low concentrations, according to Strahl & Pitsch. Applications include antiperspirants and deodorants, baby lotions, creams & lotions, color cosmetics, concealers, lipsticks, mascaras, pomades, salves/ointments and stick formulations.
