TerraCycle, a leader in innovative sustainability solutions, celebrated the opening of its new R&D lab at its Trenton, NJ global headquarters with a ribbon-cutting on Oct. 8.

Dignitaries Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora, Greater Trenton CEO George Sowa and TerraCycle CEO Tom Szaky unveiled the Dr. Ernel Simpson Research and Development Lab. Touted Terracycle’s new innovation hub, the lab is named for TerraCycle’s executive vice president of R&D and technical innovation. Company officials call the state-of-the-art facility “a beacon of progress” designed to push the boundaries of sustainability and recycling innovation.

Cultivating a Circular Economy

The unveiling represents the next chapter in sustainable innovation for the company, which is on track to moving the world from a linear economy to a circular one, official said.

In creating first-of-their-kind platforms in recycling, recycled content and reuse, Terracycle says its mission of eliminating the idea of waste is supported by the expertise of its in-house research and development team, led by Dr. Ernel Simpson.

With the opening of the new lab, TerraCycle will continue to develop recycling, reuse and recycled content solutions. The company – which operates across 21 countries – engages an expansive multi-stakeholder community across a wide range of accessible programs, from Fortune 500 companies to schools and individuals.
