News that the U.S. unemployment rate fell to 10% from 10.2% last month, may give some pundits pause, but no one should be rejoicing just yet. During every holiday--recession or no--employers provide a quick lift to their ranks to prepare for the holiday selling season.
In fact, the decline in unemployment last month was due to employers cutting the smallest number of jobs since the start of the recession. That's certainly nothing to write home about, but it is another sign that the economy is on the mend.
