According to the Zandl Group, New York, NY, the new “cholo culture” is the new millennium’s answer to the rap/hip hop culture of the 1980s. “Cholo,” which comes from gang culture, gives it authenticity and makes it hardcore, according to executives at Zandl Group. It embodies Hispanic ethnicity and started with music, the company said.
Demographic data supports the trend, with Hispanics now the country’s largest ethnic minority. Two-thirds of Hispanics are of Mexican heritage. Of those under 30 in the U.S., one in six is Hispanic and one in 10 is Mexican- American.
Cholo styles include a shaved or military buzz haircut, bandanas, pendleton shirts and khakis, Zandl Group executives said. More info: The Zandl Group, Website: www.zandlgroup.com.
