During the annual meeting for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, eight leaders in the chemical engineering industry were presented awards of accomplishment.
Dr. Stanley I. Sandler received the 2004 Founders award for outstanding contributions to the field of chemical engineering. Dr. Sandler is the H.B. du Pont chair of chemical engineering and directs the Center for Molecular Engineering and Thermodynamics at the University of Delaware. Dr. L.K. Doraiswamy, Iowa State University, was presented the William H. Walker award for excellence in contributions to chemical engineering literature. Dr. Michael W. Deem, Rice University, was presented the Allan P. Colburn award for excellence in publications by a young member of the Institute. Dr. Michael F. Doherty, University of California, Santa Barbara, was honored with the Alpha Chi Sigma award for chemical engineering research. Dr. Keith P. Johnston, University of Texas at Austin, received the Institute award for excellence in industrial gases technology. Dr. Arup K. Chakraborty, University of California at Berkeley, was presented the Professional Progress award for outstanding progress in chemical engineering. Dr. Teh Chung Ho, ExxonMobil’s Corporate Strategic Research Laboratories, Annandale, NJ, was presented the R.H. Wilhelm award in chemical reaction engineering. Dr. J.D. Seader, University of Utah, and Dr. Warren D. Seider, University of Pennsylvania, jointly received the Warren K. Lewis award for contributions to chemical engineering education.
