Scienceuticals, Inc., a fast-growing developer and manufacturer of skin care and cosmetics products, has expanded its Charleston area operations to a 54,000-square-foot facility in Dorchester County’s Eastport Industrial Park. The facility will house the company’s research, development, manufacturing and distribution operations.
According to company officials, the region’s transportation infrastructure, skilled workforce and attractive lifestyle amenities were key factors in their decision to remain and grow in the Charleston area. “We source our raw ingredients from all over the world, and we also market our services on a global basis,” said Donald Hayden, president of Scienceuticals. “In Charleston, we not only have easy access to global markets, but we can also draw from a deep pool of talented chemists and technicians who are attracted to the Charleston lifestyle.” The company plans to invest $3.6 million and create up to 40 new jobs over the next three years.
Headquartered in New York City, Scienceuticals provides custom development, formulation, manufacturing and distribution services to the global cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Its customers include some of the world’s largest skin care and cosmetic companies, plus a growing number of pharmaceutical companies. Currently, 40% of its business comes from outside the U.S.
“Customers around the world have recognized Scienceuticals’ commitment to quality,” said Mr. Hayden. “Our expansion in Charleston will not only provide more capacity to meet the greater demands of our markets, but also additional R&D capabilities to leverage global advances in biotechnology.”
William A. Finn, chairman of the Charleston Regional Development Alliance, welcomed the news of Scienceuticals’ local expansion. “This is wonderful news for our region’s emerging biosciences cluster,” he said. “For those of us who work and live here, it comes as no surprise that our lifestyle amenities played such a key role in this competitive expansion. It is this very asset that continues to not only attract, but retain talented workers in our three-county area.”
Dorchester County also celebrated Scienceuticals’ decision to expand in the region. "Our county is always excited when we can help a small company in the Charleston region expand and grow. The selection of this building by Scienceuticals provides further evidence that our state, region and county are well positioned to meet the needs of growing firms in the future. We welcome this expanding company with open arms, and give it our pledge to always be available to assist when needed," said Dorchester County Council Chairman Walter H. "Skip" Elliott.
"The Economic Development Board is happy to learn that Scienceuticals is planning to expand here. With its plans to grow to about 40 people, this company is ideally suited for our county’s niche," added George Tupper, chairman of the county’s Economic Development Board.
