Procter & Gamble has agreed to purchase Frederic Fekkai & Co., a salon hair care company. A purchase price was not disclosed.
"An excellent acquisition for P&G, adding prestige priced, designer products to their already strong haircare lineup, although it will be interesting to see how P&G handles sales through the Prestige channel in the U.S.," observed Colin Hession, managing director of Colin Hession Consulting.Frederic Fekkai, headquartered in New York, markets lines of shampoos, conditioners and hair treatments. It also operates salons in tony locations like Palm Beach, Fla., and Beverly Hills, Calif.
The company, founded by stylist Frederic Fekkai, is owned by Catterton Partners, an equity firm based in Greenwich, Conn.
Craig Bahner, vice president and general manager for North American Hair Care at P&G, said in a news release that Fekkai is the "leading hair-care brand in the U.S. prestige channel."
"Our goal is to preserve the integrity of the Fekkai business, products and salons as sources of new product inspiration and consumer understanding," Bahner said. "We see an opportunity to learn from and build this unique business model."
