Mary Kay Inc. has appointed Beth Lange, Ph.D., 39, as chief scientific officer. In her new position, Dr. Lange will serve as the technical liaison to Mary Kay’s 1.8 million independent sales force members worldwide, as well as representing the company to global trade associations and the medical community. In addition, Dr. Lange will lead the product integrity organization which includes quality, technical information and regulatory affairs.
Dr. Lange, who has been granted more than 20 U.S. and European patents, joined Mary Kay Inc. from Schering Plough Consumer Health located in Memphis, TN. In her role there as senior director of worldwide skin care and international over the counter medicines, Lange was accountable for all new Coppertone and Solarcaine products in more than 40 countries around the world. She also led a new technologies group with managed intellectual property and competitive intelligence providing benchmarking as well as emerging opportunities for the consumer division. Past positions also include management roles for Kimberly-Clark and Unilever corporations. During her career, Dr. Lange has been published in technical journals, appeared on the Today Show and has been quoted in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and other prominent media publications.

Dr. Lange earned a bachelor’s of science degree in nuclear medicine from Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. in 1991 and a doctorate in radiation biology from the University of Iowa college of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa in 1995.
