Avon's on a shopping spree. The direct seller will purchase Silpada Designs Inc. for $650 million. Moreover, it marks the third acquisition for Avon this year: The premium natural skin care range Liz Earle and the trademark of baby care line Tiny Tillia.
This isn't the first time that Avon's made a jewelry purchase. Back in 1979, the company tried to polish its image via the acquisition of Tiffany & Co., but sold the business in 1984.
But in Silpada, Avon's found a better fit. The jewelry maker sells its sterling silver wares via a network of 32,000 independent sales reps. Prices are more in line with Avon's culture, too; they range from $12 to $279.
