Bozena Michniak-Kohn, PhD, a professor of pharmaceutics at the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy and director of the Center for Dermal Research, NJCBM, was chosen 2012 Supervisor of the Year for National Student Employment Week by the Rutgers University Student Employment Office.
NJCBM is one of the leading biomaterials research institutes in the world. The Center for Dermal Research (CDR), the premier dermatopharmaceutics research center in Piscataway, NJ, conducts studies on topical and transdermal compound delivery, skin biology and skin tissue engineering. Founded in 2011 by BMichniak-Kohn, the CDR also provides quality educational opportunities for its members through workshops, seminar series, symposia and courses.
“Dr. Michniak has flawlessly guided me through the lab’s project and slowly let me develop as an independent thinker and scientist,” said Yangmin Chen, student who nominated Dr. Michniak. Chen is in the Doctor of Pharmacy program. “By the end of my first year I had already accomplished numerous presentations, finalized many primary studies, and even helped write abstracts to be submitted to publications and conferences—things I never thought I would do until I was in graduate school.”
“I’m honored to accept this award,” said Michniak-Kohn. “Students are the reason why we are all here and I enjoy working with them. “
Michniak-Kohnhas directed more than 34 Ph.D. and Masters students, and 300-plus undergraduates. The work resulted in more than 365 abstracts, four patent applications, 32 books and book chapters, and more than 100 papers.
The award is given annually in recognition of dedication to student employees at the University.
