Dennis Murphy, a Stepan Company research fellow, has been named the 2016 AOCS Surfactants & Detergents Division Samuel Rosen Memorial Award recipient for advancements in the application of the principles of surfactant chemistry. Dr. Murphy will present on Fabric Softener Technology: Past, Present, Future at the 107th AOCS Annual Meeting & Expo in Salt Lake City, UT, on May 3, 2016.
Dr. Murphy leads Stepan’s Laundry Cleaning and Fabric Softener groups in product development. He graduated from Brooklyn College in 1985 and received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the City University of NY in 1989. Prior to joining Stepan Company in 2008, Dr. Murphy worked at Unilever for 14 years in laundry technology and Union Carbide Chemicals and Plastics for four years working on organosilicone surfactants and antifoams. He is an inventor on more than 55 issued US patents, is a registered U.S. Patent Agent, and has many peer-reviewed journal publications on various aspects of surfactant science and surface chemistry.
