Provital maintains it is the first cosmetic ingredients supplier worldwide to achieve the Internationally Recognized Certificate of Compliance (IRCC) at Access and Benefit-Sharing Clearing-House (ABSCH). This Certificate is the official mechanism established by the Nagoya Protocol to confirm that the terms of Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS) regulations are fulfilled and that Prior Informed Consent (PIC) is obtained or granted and that Mutually Agreed Terms (MAT) are established before initiating a new R&D project based on access and utilization of genetic resources, according to the company.
The R&D project that has gained this Certificate will evaluate the cosmetic application of traditional plants from México and will guarantee a fair supply-chain for those plants found to have cosmetic activity. The project will be done in collaboration with different communities of farmers of the State of Querétaro and with the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, in México.
This is a major achievement recognizing the best practices applied by Provital in terms of respect for biodiversity and sustainability and the accomplishment of the rules on Access and Benefit-Sharing as established in the Nagoya Protocol. It has been possible thanks to the great cooperation with Mexican authorities.
