Givaudan formed a strategic partnership with Draco Natural Products, Inc. to develop a new proprietary line of bioactive botanical ingredients for the use in its Active Beauty business. The two companies will jointly work on research and development of active botanical ingredients formulated using the principles of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). These unique ingredients will primarily be used for producing topical products to improve and enhance skin and hair health. The partnership is fully in line with Givaudan’s 2020 strategic goals and growing its Active Beauty business.


“We are always looking for innovative solutions and Draco brings to us an impressive expertise in effective naturally-derived products. We will enhance these ingredients and make them ideal for our skin and hair care Active Beauty ingredients portfolio. We strongly believe it will respond to increasing consumer needs in products that contribute to their health and well-being,” explained Maurizio Volpi, president, fragrance division, Givaudan.

Draco is a leading supplier of botanical extract ingredients for nutritional supplements, functional foods, OTC and personal care. The company has developed a proprietary extraction process which allows the delivery of extracts that are distinctive, traceable and sustainable. “We are very excited about this partnership,” said Jerry Wu, president and CEO of Draco. “Givaudan is a top notch company with a long history of innovation, and our combined expertise will allow us to bring natural solutions for customers’ brands.”
 

According to Laurent Bourdeau, head of Givaudan’s Active Beauty business, this strategic partnership will introduce unique products that have been designed using natural extracts, that follow the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, yet use all the knowledge of modern science.


"It is a very exciting moment for us as it opens a new world of possibilities," he added.

Givaudan Active Beauty dedicated its new Skin Expertise Technical Center in Pomacle, France. Designed to accelerate cosmetic research and development projects, this 100-square meters biology platform combines genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, cell culture and skin explants analysis. The $520,000 investment will speed up the evaluation of the pipeline of ingredients arising from the four technology pillars of the company: blue and white biotechnologies, green technology and microbiome research.

"It reveals our strong willingness to constantly extend and enhance our skills and experience in skin science to further bring added value to our customers. Our skin experts now get a new opportunity to increase the extent of their studies, for the crafting of tomorrow’s active ingredients.”


Inspired from the pharmaceutical drug discovery model, this new Expertise Center is integrated in Givaudan Active Beauty’s entire discovery chain, offering high throughput screening (HTS) capabilities in order to identify and select more rapidly lead compounds with new biological activities, according to the company. It will enable new test and screening methods targeting strategic biological functions for the beauty of the skin, such as melanin synthesis, extracellular matrix components production, inflammatory cascades or detoxification pathways, according to the company. Candidate compounds will be qualified on human cells and skin explants before being further evaluated in the company’s clinical assessment unit, to study their kinetic of action and their activity on volunteers versus placebo. This new scientific platform will also contribute to support the strategic R&D activity of the company on the human skin microbiome in coordination with its metagenomics Expertise Center in Toulouse.

Givaudan Active Beauty dedicated its new Skin Expertise Technical Center in Pomacle, France. Designed to accelerate cosmetic research and development projects, this 100-square meters biology platform combines genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, cell culture and skin explants analysis. The $520,000 investment will speed up the evaluation of the pipeline of ingredients arising from the four technology pillars of the company: blue and white biotechnologies, green technology and microbiome research.

Inspired from the pharmaceutical drug discovery model, this new Expertise Center is integrated in Givaudan Active Beauty’s entire discovery chain, offering high throughput screening (HTS) capabilities in order to identify and select more rapidly lead compounds with new biological activities, according to the company. It will enable new test and screening methods targeting strategic biological functions for the beauty of the skin, such as melanin synthesis, extracellular matrix components production, inflammatory cascades or detoxification pathways, according to the company. Candidate compounds will be qualified on human cells and skin explants before being further evaluated in the company’s clinical assessment unit, to study their kinetic of action and their activity on volunteers versus placebo. This new scientific platform will also contribute to support the strategic R&D activity of the company on the human skin microbiome in coordination with its metagenomics Expertise Center in Toulouse.
