US Patent No. 9,820,920 B2: L'Oréal, Paris, has been a process for making a sunscreen composition that is comprised of aqueous phase; an oil phase comprising at least one cosmetically acceptable oil; at least one sunscreen active; an emulsifier system comprising at least one ionic surfactant, at least one nonionic surfactant having an HLB of greater than or equal to about 14; and at least one nonionic surfactant having an HLB of less than or equal to about 10; and combining those ingredients.
The sunscreen composition has approximately 12% to about 25% by weight sun screen active or 25 to about 40% by weight sun screen active, based on the total weight of the composition.
The composition is an oil-in-water emulsion containing oil droplets having an average particle size of from about 100 to 150 nm, is denatured alcohol-free, appears semi-transparent to transparent upon application onto an end-user's skin, and is stable.
