SMA Collaboratives, LLC's 5th Annual Technical Seminar will be held Feb. 15,2 018 at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Coral Springs Hotel. The event includes a four-hour course on natural formulations taught by SCC Chair Perry Romanowski. Here's a look at the schedule:
1. 4- hour course on Natural formulations/regulatory by Perry Romanowski: A Cosmetic Chemists Guide to Natural Formulating Standards. The naturals trend in the cosmetic industry continues to grow and cosmetic chemists are now frequently asked to create formulas that are natural, organic, non-toxic, or even chemical free. The challenge is that many of these terms have no legal definition, so formulators often have to guess what compounds can be considered natural. A number of nongovernmental organizations like Cosmos, Ecocert, BDIH, NaTrue and more have published standards which many companies turn to for guidance. Each of these groups have slight differences in their standards and it can become confusing for anyone trying to follow them. In this talk we'll review the features of the major natural standards from around the world and how it impacts cosmetic formulators. Romanowski will also some specific raw materials and the natural alternatives to surfactants, emulsifiers, and preservatives.
2. The science of perfumes by an Expert Perfumer from Cosmo International Fragrances to discuss the art of creating perfumes and the science of using them in cosmetic products.
3. A marketing of science presentation by Dr. Marie Alice Dibon on epigenetics, microbiota and synthetic biology, and their applications in cosmetics products. =Dibon has given many presentations throughout the US and Europe including In-Cosmetics, Dior and CEW Paris.
4. Highlights from vendors on new products including The Art of Natural Solution's line of natural ultrasonic extracts supported by data from herbs grown in Scotland and South Korea. The Art of Natural Solution will start production in the US this year.
