According to reports on CNBC, Procter & Gamble is in talks with Pfizer regarding the purchase of, or a joint venture with, its consumer healthcare business, which includes brands like Chapstick, Advil pain relief products, Centrum vitamins, Ambesol and other well-known OTC properties.
Last October, Pfizer announced that it was reviewing “strategic alternatives" for its Consumer Healthcare unit, which is one of the the largest OTC health care products businesses in the world. Its 2016 revenues were approximately $3.4 billion and it operated in more than 90 countries.
Johnson & Johnson, RB and GlaxoSmithKline at one time considered suitors for the business, but have since dropped out of the process.
