Robert M. Sayre, Ph.D., founder emeritus of Rapid Precision Testing Laboratories in Cordova TN, passed away on June 18, 2018. Dr. Sayre held a B.S. in Physics and M.A. in History of Science from University of Oklahoma and a Ph.D. in Biophysics from State University of New York at Buffalo.
Following 18 years at Coppertone (Schering-Plough) developing sunscreen efficacy tests and instrumentation, he established Rapid Precision Testing Laboratories, to provide precision spectroradiometric measurements and certification of light sources used in cosmetic and drug efficacy, safety and sunscreen testing. He published more than 125 research papers and chapters in books about human risk and responses to UV radiation and sunlight exposure, human pigmentation, vitamin D, sunscreens and improved testing methodologies.
The family requests any honoraria be donated to the University of Oklahoma general scholarship fund or the Memphis Humane Society.
