Here's one from the "Did You Know?" department. US President Donald J. Trump's pick for Supreme Court Justice, Brett Kavanaugh, is the only child of Ed Kavanaugh, the long-time chief executive officer of the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association, now the Personal Care Product Council. His mother is Martha Kavanaugh, a retired Montgomery County Circuit Court judge.
Kavanaugh, 53, grew up in Maryland. He graduated from Yale Law School in 1990, and then clerked for Justice Anthony Kennedy, whose seat he has been nominated for on the Supreme Court.
Although his father was a lobbyist in Washington for decades, Brett Kavanaugh credits his mother for getting him interested in law.
"My introduction to the law came at our dinner table when she practiced her closing arguments," Kavanaugh recalled. "Her trademark line was 'use your common sense, what rings true, what rings false.' That's good advice for a juror and for a son."
The elder Kavanaugh served as CTFA president and CEO for more than 30 years. He retired in 2005.
