With a bit of that “Fight Club” and “Chopped” feel, contestants and spectators convened inside the on-the-show-floor lab space on Wednesday, October 17 for the In-Cosmetics North America 2018 Formulation Challenge.
Judged by the Institute of Personal Care Science and Mintel, the teams (made up of four R&D staff and 2 marketers) were presented with a mystery box of personal care ingredients and 90 minutes to assemble a new creation: a finished product complete with a unique concept marketing.
This year’s competition included teams from Colgate-Palmolive, Estée Lauder, Unilever, Shiseido, Johnson and Johnson and Swiss American CDMO, a contract manufacturing firm.
Shiseido’s team came out on top this year with its Triple P, a primer designed to also protect and perfect skin.
