Magnakron is embarking on a new project to create an integrated coconut products company to be located in Jose Panganiban, Philippines. The project includes creation of virgin, organic farms which will supply coconut for beverage and food use. The site will also process material into refined oils.
An integral part of the downstream products will be the existing fatty acid and fatty alcohol units already built on the site which have 56,000 metric tons of fatty acid output and 38,000 metric tons of fatty alcohol output. Both plants will be renovated and upgraded. A new oil mill and refinery will be constructed on site. The refinery will have an expandable capacity up to 200,000 metric tons. The 114-acre site will be expanded to 160 acres. Magnakron has a seven-year plan to work with major partners in various industry to develop new products that can be manufactured using fully sustainable coconut oil and other coconut products.
The company has contracted with Honeywell Corp to fully integrate all operations, including environmental controls. A cornerstone of the project is a new research lab, dedicated to creating new products from coconut.
Company executives maintain that the plan includes an agenda to develop the region. They say Magnakron has a social responsibility to its workers and the community to provide better healthcare and lifestyle improvements. With thousands of new jobs, the local and regional community will enjoy a better quality of life, according to Magnakron, which will work with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) to provide farmers with better education and training in the planting and harvesting of coconuts. The goal is to plant new trees which give higher yields and provides higher earnings for those farmers and their families.
