Dr. Arunasiri Iddamalgoda has been named corporate executive director at Ichimaru Pharcos Co., Ltd., Gifu, Japan. A native of Sri Lanka, he is the first non-Japanese to attain the title of corporate executive director. Iddamalgoda joined Ichimaru Pharcos in 2001 and, prior to this promotion, served as director of the research and development division.
He received his Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine from University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, India; his Master of Agriculture Science from Gifu University, Gifu, Japan and his doctorate in Agricultural Science from the United Graduate School of Agricultural sciences, Gifu University, Japan.
Prior to joining Ichimaru Pharcos, Iddamalgoda served as veterinary surgeon for the Government of Sri Lanka and veterinary research officer at the Veterinary Research Institute, Sri Lanka.
His research has focused on skin aging, skin pigmentation and inflammation, and is regarded as an expert in medicinal herbs and plant-based cosmetic ingredient development. Among his many honors, in 1999 he received the Japanese Society for Promotion of Science Award for the Post-Doctoral Studies.
Iddamalgoda is a member of several academic societies, including Society of Investigative Dermatology (US), Japan Society for Investigative Dermatology, European Society of Dermatological Research, International Academy of Cosmetic Dermatology, Society of Cosmetic Chemist of Japan, Asian Society for Pigment Cell Research and the Sri Lanka Veterinary Association.
