Four personal care and cleaning products companies were named in this year’s Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations index. Included in the rankings were Natura Cosmeticos SA at 30, Unilever at 46, Kao Corporation at 86 and L’Oréal at 98. Specialty and performance chemical company, BASF was also included at 87 in the rankings.
Announced on January 21 at the Global Economic Forum Annual Meeting held in Davos, Switzerland, the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World is an index evaluating global companies’ sustainability performance developed by the Canadian media and research company Corporate Knights.
“With nations failing to make progress at the COP25 climate talks in Madrid in December, corporate action on the climate has never been more important,” reads the Global 100 Progress Report. “If the 2010s were the decade when business started to realize the dangers of climate change and the impact it could have on their operations, the 2020s must be the decade when they act to dramatically reduce the emissions that cause it.”
Selected from a pool of 7,395 companies, each are evaluated on a set of up to 21 quantitative key performance indicators across environmental, social and governance factors, weighted to reflect each industry’s impact profile. This year’s list includes 28 companies that were not on the Global 100 last year. 53 personal care and cleaning products companies were evaluated in total.
