J&J is throwing in the talc. After years of facing lawsuits charging that use of its talc-based baby powder caused cancer, Johnson & Johnson is voluntarily removing the formulas from North American stores.
"(Demand for) talc-based Johnson's Baby Powder in North America has been declining due in large part to changes in consumer habits and fueled by misinformation around the safety of the product and constant barrage of litigation advertising," the company said in a statement.
Talc-based baby powder sales in North America represent 0.5% of J&J's consumer health sales. J&J will continue to sell cornstarch-based talc in the region.
