British e-commerce conglomerate The Hut Group is investing 100 million British pounds (about $125 million at current exchange rates) to develop e-commerce sites for brands including Elemis, Burt’s Bees, Nuxe and By Terry.
Specifically, the Manchester, UK-based group said its technology services division, THG Ingenuity, is partnering with several indie brands and beauty companies, including PZ Cussons and Revolution Beauty, to build and operate their direct-to-consumer sites internationally.
THG, which owns Lookfantastic, Espa and Illamasqua, among other names, said it was signing these deals in order to help beauty brands large and small “meet the growing online consumer demand,” which has accelerated during coronavirus lockdown. Last year, THG's sales rose 24% to more than $1.4 billion; more than 50% of revenue came from its own brands and 66% of sales came from outside the UK.
This isn't THG's first collaboration; over the years the company has worked with Nestlé, Procter & Gamble, Walgreens Boots Alliance, Johnson & Johnson and Nintendo.
