Cosmetics Industry Buyers and Suppliers (CIBS) awarded the 2020 Rutgers University scholarship to Keza Ruranga, a graduating senior at Rutgers University, majoring in packaging engineering, and minoring in Africana studies.
Ruranga says she chose her major because “Packaging engineering is a blend of the elements of engineering that I value most which are design, environmental awareness and optimization. There is so much room for creativity and innovation—and it is something that almost every person on Earth uses, making every change we make to this industry all the more important.”
Ruranga said she is interested in cosmetics packaging because of its heavy emphasis on aesthetics as well as functionality.
"I am also interested in sustainability as packaging is so closely linked to many pressing environmental issues, and more sustainable packaging has the ability to make a huge difference to this planet,” she added.
