For those of us who wish for the good old days, Symbiome has just the right skin care regimen. The company has raised $15 million for an "ancestral microbiome" lineup of skin care products. The eponymous range, which debuts next month, includes seven products that are said to shift the skin's microbiome back to its "ancestral" state, according to Founder and Chief Scientific Officer Larry Weiss, who also had a hand in the development of Mother Dirt.
Using 10 or fewer ingredients, the goal is to create simpler formulas that help proliferate the microflora from long ago. The initial launch includes Renewal, a cleanser; The One, a moisturizer and several face oils. More products will be introduced in time for the holidays. CEO Vicki Levine maintains that nearly all the ingredients in the brand were sourced from the Amazon and fermented in a way to unlock their nutrients.
Investors are buying what Weiss and Levine are selling. The finance round was led by True Ventures and includes Bold Capital Partners, Mission Bay Capital and Gisev Family Office.
