If anything positive can be said about the COVID-19 pandemic, it's that companies adapted to the new normal far better than anyone could have predicted, according to a new study by McKinsey & Co. In fact, McKinsey found companies digitized many activites 20 to 25 times faster during COVID-19.
Last month, McKinsey asked executives how long they expected it would have taken their companies prepandemic to digitize 12 different activities (see chart) and how long it took them once the coronavirus hit. When it came to remove working, for example, companies moved 43 times more quickly than executives thought possible.
