Natural cosmetic ingredients manufacturer and olive squalane leader Sophim is a family-owned company based in Peyruis, in the south of France. The company’s core business is based on the expertise of innovative distillation, esterification and hydrogenation processes. Squalane is at the heart of Sophim’s expertise.
Squalane C30H62 is a molecule that reproduces the epidermis’ ability to repair and moisturize itself thanks to sebum activity. It is an organic emollient and protective agent, which is valued on the cosmetic market for its great properties and its well-known skin benefits. It also offers many qualities for dermocosmetics, according to Sophim, which sources its squalane from olive.
The company’s range of products include:
• Phytosqualan, a high performing natural emollient natural vegetable squalane;
• Biophytosebum, a natural active emollient 100% natural vegetable origin;
• Phytowax, a range of natural waxes unique sensory properties;
• Insapolive, olive unsaponifiable rich in squalene;
• Vegeline , a 100% vegetable based texturing emollient;
• MC30/MC300, hydrogenated polyisobutene multifonctional oil base; and
• Oils and butters.
According to the company, fractional distillation allows Sophim to fine tune its purification steps to obtain a higher purity squalene.
In 2021, Sophim says it will further invest in its operations with plans to acquire new equipment to boost its production.
Further, Sophim takes part in IRODDI, a project funded by the Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) under the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation program (grant agreement No. 887407). This project’s main objective is to valorize the waste streams of the deodorization process of vegetable oils refining, said the company.
