Apoena Biotech uses biotechnology to produce sustainable and effective ingredients for the cosmetic, fragrance and toiletry sector. The company says it is the first Brazilian biotech company to be 100% dedicated to CFT. According to executives, Apoena Biotech's materials are "greener" than traditional plant-based ingredients, as they have low environmental impact. Biotech eliminates stages of monitoring and control of planting, harvesting and extraction.
"Developing only natural products is far from solving the collective problem of environmental impact," explained Bruno Carillo, managing director, Apoena Biotech. "Deforesting to plant and obtain the active is not a sustainable practice in its essence. Biotechnology is the best way to access nature, preserving the planet."
In terms of efficacy, Apoena Biotech executives say biotechnological ingredients can be compared to any other type of active and, in some cases, can outperform them. That's because, from a biological standpoint, the microorganisms are closer to humans than plants, and especially active ones of synthetic origin, so they produce substances more compatible with the body, they insist.

"The control of biotech products is in bioreactors where they are produced, following parameters of pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, among others, ensuring reproducibility, high quality standard and performance suitable for application as prebiotics, probiotics or postbiotics," said Juliana Nakayama, bioprocess manager, Apoena Biotech.
