Overtone has today launched its highly-anticipated Mixology Collection. The new release features four new semi-permanent, custom hair color kits inspired by an array of vibrant cocktails and mocktails and the artists who create them. Color kits include Berry Smash, Brunch Punch, Sunset Spritz and Negroni.
Each curated set combines three of oVertone’s coloring conditioners in unique ways to produce soft pink, warm orangey yellow, fiery orange red or bright raspberry shades. Vegan and cruelty-free, each set is effective on all hair types and curl-friendly while free of ammonias, parabens and sulfates.
The oVertone Mixology Collection also showcases top Denver bartenders modeling each of the sets, sharing their individual color stories and exploring the connection between personal passions and self-expression. Using first-person narratives and engaging imagery, oVertone is bringing each colorful story to life in a way that empowers and inspires others to embrace their passions and find new ways to show their true colors every day.
The Berry Smash Conditioner Kit ($45) comes with three, eight-ounce oVertone Coloring Conditioners: rose gold, pink and purple for brown hair. When mixed together, they are ideal for achieving and maintaining a bright raspberry shade on platinum blonde to dark brown starting shades. Best results are achieved on platinum to medium brown starting shades.
The suggested usage ratio is two parts rose gold for brown hair; one part pink for brown hair; and one part purple for brown hair. The model for the Berry Smash Conditioner Kit is Lauren Paylor, a research and development chef at Silver Lyan and a US World Class 2019 finalist who made the 2021 Women Entrepreneurs 40 Under 40 list, among other accolades.
“Being able to provide a non-alcoholic option that is not an afterthought, that is very well-crafted and takes the same time and care as every other drink on the menu is essential and important,” said Paylor. “I do feel like my hair is part of my image as a bartender. For a very long time, I permed my hair so that it was straight. It wasn’t until after college that I stopped; I didn’t like the way it smelled. My hair was brittle and it was breaking. I figured out how to start styling it and realized that I had these beautiful curls. I am very comfortable with who I am. I think as a person but that certainly was the very beginning of me figuring out what my true identity was.”
The Brunch Punch Conditioner Kit ($45) comes with three, eight-ounce oVertone coloring conditioners: vibrant magenta, rose gold and pastel silver. When mixed together, they are ideal for achieving and maintaining a soft pink tone on platinum blonde to medium brown starting shades. Best results are achieved on platinum to medium blonde starting shades.
The suggested usage ratio is one-part vibrant magenta; two parts rose gold; and one-part pastel silver.
Alex Jump, head bartender at Death & Co. made Forbes’ Food and Beverage 30 under 30, who finds personal satisfaction applying her creativity, hands-on.
The Sunset Spritz Conditioner Kit ($45) comes with three, eight-ounce oVertone coloring conditioners: ginger, vibrant orange and neon yellow. When mixed together, they are ideal for achieving and maintaining a warm orangey yellow hue on medium blonde to medium brown starting shades. Best results are achieved on platinum to medium brown and red starting shades.
The suggested usage ratio is one-part ginger; one-part vibrant orange; and two parts neon yellow.
Michelle Lynne Glancey serves as a bartender at Middleman, Goldpoint, Roxy on Broadway and Pony Up Denver. Glancey says her hair is an extension of her self-expression.
“A lot of times people ascribe a certain masculinity to different glassware. Delicious stuff can be pink, blue or whatever,” she said. “I would say [coloring my hair] has nothing to do with bartending, but since my profession bleeds into my passion, into my lifestyle and who I am, then yes, my hair is definitely a part of my self-expression as a bartender, as a person.”
The Negroni Conditioner Kit ($45) comes with three eight-ounce oVertone color conditioners: rose gold for brown hair, pink for brown hair and ginger. When mixed together, they are ideal for achieving and maintaining a warm fiery orange red tone on platinum blonde to medium brown starting shades. Best results are achieved on medium blonde to medium brown starting shades.
The suggested usage ratio is one-part rose gold for brown hair; one-part pink for brown hair; and one-part ginger.
Dave ‘Davey’ Anderson is a bartender at Death & Co. and the brand ambassador for Singani 63.
“I feel like I can learn so much about somebody the moment they sit down, the drink they order and how they express themselves when they sit at my bar,” he said. “I do consider hair color as a form of self-expression. It is just like clothing, jewelry and makeup. It is a great way to show people who you want to be.”
