The Procter & Gamble Company is voluntarily recalling all lots with expiry through September 2023 of specific Old Spice and Secret aerosol spray antiperspirants and Old Spice Below Deck aerosol spray products sold in the United States (see list here) to the consumer level due to the presence of benzene detected.
To date, P&G said it has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall and is conducting this recall out of an abundance of caution. The recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The affected products are packaged in aerosol cans and were distributed nationwide in the US through retail outlets and online.
All other Old Spice and Secret products are not impacted by this issue and may continue to be used as intended, announced Procter & Gamble.
P&G, in its announcement, said that the recall does not represent the vast majority of it products including body spray products, solid sticks, soft solids and gel antiperspirants and deodorant products.
P&G has notified its retailers to remove products from shelves. Old Spice and Secret will also offer reimbursement for consumers who have purchased products impacted by this recall.
More Benzene Recalls
On Nov. 17, Blistek recalled select Odor Eater foot sprays after it detected benzene.
Low levels of benzene have also been found in some spray sunscreen products, which some experts attribute to issues with the alcohol supply chain.
