Shiseido Company has developed a new, faster testing method to measure the amount and balance of indigenous skin bacteria. In addition, the beauty giant says the method is simple enough that it may be used in stores so consultants can provide customers with personalized solutions based on the analysis.
In most cases, it takes nearly one month to obtain the results of indigenous skin bacteria tests for consumers because it requires a specialized analysis after collecting the samples, according to Shisiedo. Wih the application of its compact, simplified PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) testing device, test results can be obtained in about 40 minutes. By combining this testing with counseling services, Shiseido wants to provide customers with personalized skincare solutions according to their current skin conditions.
Shiseido plans to launch a “unique skin bacteria” measuring service using this testing method on a trial basis for visitors at the Shiseido Global Innovation Center (S/PARK), a research and innovation hub located in Yokohama.
The method was developed through a collaboration with Yamato-Esulon Co., Ltd. and Orcoa Co., Ltd.
Shiseido measured the two types of indigenous bacteria— Staphylococcus epidermidis and Propionibacterium acnes—and it confirmed that the amount and balance of these bacteria are equivalent to the results of those being examined with a conventional method (16S rRNA amplicon analysis).
By combining this testing with counseling services, Shiseido wants to provide customers with optimal, personalized skincare solutions according to their current skin conditions.
In other company news, Shiseido recently a alliance related to its global production management.
