As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, Skin Proud is putting the care back into skincare and supporting mental health issues. For the month of May and beyond, Skin Proud will create a wellness movement which focuses on the relationship between mental health issues and stressed skin.
Skin Proud has partnered with advocate Bunny Michael and Elyse Fox, founder of charity Sad Girls Club, to create a skin positivity chatbot to promote positivity, self-care and skin happiness.
Launching today, the brand unveils the Skin Proud Twitter chatbot to promote skin positivity and checking in with not only your mind, body and wellbeing, but also skin.
“We are so proud to be providing this chatbot to Twitter users,” said Nora Zukauskaite, global marketing director for Skin Proud. “Social media can be a lonely place that sometimes has a negative impact so by introducing our chatbot we can take the negative and spin it to be positive and encourage users to take the time to check-in with themselves. At Skin Proud, we know how important mental health is and how it can impact your overall wellness and skin and is why we are thrilled to be working with the Sad Girls Club to provide spaces online and in person for people to interact and know they are not alone.”
To re-enforce skin happiness, Skin Proud is encouraging consumers to adopt a simple yet effective nighttime routine to wind down their days by taking 20 minutes to energize and center themselves. The following three Skin Proud hero products help to alleviate stress and revitalize the skin:
Unplug Detox Face Mask
Formulated with sebum absorbing white clay, moisturizing amino acids, and a free-radical fighting active, this powerful mask detoxes the skin, while hydrating sesame oil balances and provides a hit of hydration to purify the skin and unclogs pores.
Recharge Serum
Recharge Serum renews skin with 0.5% retinol serum. Working through the night, this lightweight serum blends hyaluronic acid, rosehip oil and retinol to help even skin tone and promote cell renewal, while gently removing dead skin cells for skin that wakes up glowing.
Sleep Hero
Sleep Hero helps provide maximum moisture to skin with this 2-in-1 face mask, formulated with free radical blasting and hydrating raspberry extract, and balancing niacinamide to promote healthy skin.
Skin Proud's Chatbot Encourages Skin Positivity
The bot will target any Twitter posts that use negative words about skin care and skin stress, and provide tips and advice from two mental advocates—non-binary mental health writer Bunny Michael and founder of the Sad Girls Club and advocate Elyse Fox. The automated chatbot advice from Bunny and Elyse will range from how to detox the skin and mind to unplug from social media to focus on recharging the mind.
“We’re honored to be included in such an important and timely campaign,” said Fox, founder of the Sad Girls Club. “At Sad Girls Club, we work to create supportive digital communities for millennial and Gen Z women and girls worldwide. Working with Skin Proud gives us yet another opportunity to shift the conversation and further destigmatize mental wellness online.”
The chatbot will encourage those who are speaking negatively about their skin and wellbeing to take a moment to check in with themselves and replace the negative with positive words, in order to release the happy hormone and achieve the ultimate skin wellness.
As part of the campaign, Skin Proud will be donating 10% of online sales in May to the Sad Girls Club, founded by advocate Fox. The global charity spans 40 countries and stands to remove the stigma integrated in mental health, provide mental health services to those who do not have access to therapy and treatment, and create real-life space that nurture and build for young people to know they are not alone.
Research from the American Psychological Association has found that more than nine in 10 Gen Z adults (91%) said they have experienced at least one physical or emotional symptom because of stress, such as feeling depressed or sad (58%) or lacking interest, motivation or energy (55%). Yet, following the pandemic a major trend and focus for Gen-Z has been “caretaking”—the act of saying goodbye to the hustle culture and hello to care culture.
The Skin Proud chatbot will run for two weeks from May 18. Skin Proud is available in store at Walmart and Walmart.com.
