Fifty-five years ago, the Expert Panel for Fragrance Safety was founded as an independent panel of experts to oversee and review the science conducted by the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM).
The panel’s establishment in 1967 was the first of several steps taken to ensure the scientific objectivity of the RIFM’s work.
“Among many other things, the panel provides us with strategic guidance and determines scientific study design interprets test results for relevance to human health and environmental protection,” said RIFM Vice President Anne Marie Api, PhD. “RIFM literally could not do our work without them.”
The Expert Panel comprises internationally recognized academic scientists with no ties to the fragrance industry, including dermatologists, pathologists, toxicologists and environmental scientists. It selects its own members, who serve on a rotating basis.
