Homer Swei has joined Environmental Working Group (EWG) as senior vice president of the Healthy Living Science team. He will oversee the team’s research and marketing work regarding personal care and cleaning products.
Swei has more than 30 years of experience working in the private sector. For the last 20 years, he worked for Johnson & Johnson, including the last six years as Global Director for Product Stewardship. In that role, Swei led the company’s product and governance policies, stakeholder engagement and ingredient transparency for a range of products, including its flagship baby, beauty and feminine hygiene lines, among others.

During his career, Swei has devoted time and effort advocating for industry stewardship and extended transparency with regards to chemical ingredients in personal care products, including those use in fragrances. In 2020, he joined the board of directors of the US-based Fragrance Creators Association.
Prior to his time at J&J, Swei held similar positions at other companies, including Dow Chemical. He received his Bachelor of Science’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Northwestern University.
