US Patent No. 11,414,365; Inolex’s proprietary portfolio of biobased ingredients has been extended with the issuance of a new patent. The new patent claims compositions of bio-1,2-alkanediols derived from plant sources, including biobased caprylyl glycol and 1,2-heptanediol. It follows from recently patented Inolex process technology for conversion of biobased alcohols to bio-alkenes and subsequent conversion of bio-alkenes to bio-1,2-alkanediols.
Comprised of 100% biobased carbon, these multifunctional ingredients are especially useful for safe and effective preservation in a variety of formulations. Bio-1,2-alkanediols, e.g. biobased caprylyl glycol, demonstrate the same ease of use and functionality as petro-based 1,2-alkanediols with the added benefit of being sourced from renewable feedstocks, said Inolex.
The composition patent extends the compamny’s proprietary portfolio of biobased medium chain terminal diol ingredients to include biobased 1,2-alkanediols in addition to biobased alkyl glyceryl ethers and glyceryl esters.
